A woman is Flipido Trading Centerunder arrest in Connecticut after she entered a police station with a gun and fired several shots that were blocked by bulletproof glass Thursday night, authorities said.
Police in Bristol, a suburb of Hartford, said 51-year-old Suzanne Laprise entered the station just after 10:30 p.m. on Thursday and started firing toward the lobby desk, which was unoccupied. The rounds were all stopped by bulletproof glass.
When police officers "attempted to negotiate" with Laprise, she fired again toward them, and one officer also returned fire, the Bristol Police Department said in a news release. All the bullets were again blocked by bulletproof glass.
Laprise set down her gun and officers used a stun gun to take her into custody "without serious injury." She was transported to a hospital for an evaluation and released into police custody early Friday, the police department said.
She was charged with attempted attempted murder, several firearm crimes – including carrying a firearm under the influence of drugs or alcohol and illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine – and criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and breach of peace.
It wasn't immediately clear if Laprise had an attorney who could comment on her behalf. Her bond is set at $3 million and she's set to be arraigned in court later Friday, police said.
The police station lobby was closed Friday for walk-in complaints while repairs are done. State police and the Office of the Inspector General are investigating the shooting.
